The biennial Atlantic Cup attracts some of the best Class40 sailors out there for an epic three-stage race from Charleston, South Carolina, to New York City, and then from New York to Portland, Maine. An event that is fast making a name for itself internationally, it draws sailors from far and wide, including Europe, where most of the Class40 fleet resides. This, in turn, allows it to bridge the gap between professional and amateur sailors, making it the perfect proving ground for those hoping to turn pro. Follow Class40 rookie Jonathan Green as he prepares for the race in Episode 1 of SAIL magazine’s four-part series on the 2018 Atlantic Cup, which took place this past spring. And be sure to stay tuned for the next three episodes coming out over the next couple of weeks. For print coverage of this year’s race, click here.
