The New York Yacht Club recently launched and “flew” a half-scale model of the kind of boat it plans to sail in the 36th America's Cup in Auckland, New Zealand, in 2021.

Team New York YC American Magic, a collaboration between the club, Bella Mente Racing and Quantum Racing launched AM38, or the “Mule” as it’s affectionately known, on a crisp fall day on Narragansett Bay following seven months of design and build work. The launch comes in the wake of INEOS Team UK’s [https://www.ineosteamuk.com] launch of its concept boat, T5, in June.

Next up: extensive testing and analysis as the team works toward creating the full-foiling monohull it hopes will bring the “Auld Mug” back home to the club that started it all so many regattas ago.
