"That's it... We've smashed the arse off it!” tweeted the Vestas Sailrocket 2 team on Friday.
The team broke the 500 meter speed record, with an average of 59.38 knots Friday in Ludertiz, Namibia. While the record is still subject to ratification by the World Speed Sailing Record Council (WSSRC), the record “smashes” the previous kiteboard record of 55.65 knots set by Rob Douglas in 2010.
Paul Larsen, the project manager and pilot, and his team have worked toward this accomplishment for ten years and now they can finally celebrate.
“I have too many people to thank I don't know where to start,” Larsen said in his blog Friday. “I have to call mum and dad. The happiest of days!”
