In recent days we’ve talked about various different ways to scratch that sailing itch online. Well, here’s another. How about taking an online course with longtime sail-trainer NauticEd? In addition to being fun, the courses will truly elevate your sailing skills to a whole new level.

Created by veteran sailor Captain Grant Headifen, who among his other accomplishments holds U.S.Coast Guard 50-Ton Master Mariner’s certificate, NauticEd’s courses can be purchased individually or in “bundles” tailored to your particular ability level as determined by the company’s proprietary online interface.

Specific topics include everything from basic sail theory and terminology to docking, anchoring, dealing with emergencies, coastal navigation and even how to outrun a storm. The bundles can take anywhere from seven to 20 hours to complete depending on skill level, although there is no time limit and you can review the constituent lessons as many times as you like.

Best of all, for those with dreams of bareboat chartering, by completing NauticEd’s “Bareboat Charter Master” bundle you will also receive the necessary certification to take out a boat on your own pretty much anywhere in the world, including both the Caribbean and Mediterranean.
