The key to Seldén’s new top-down asymmetric spinnaker furler is a swiveling tack attachment, which lets the foot fly free as the rest of the sail is being rolled down from the head on a torque rope. The result is a tighter furl that allows you to keep the sail hoisted, even when sailing to windward.
Nice features on this continuous-line system include Torlon bearings in the tack swivel; an impact-resistant composite cover around the line driver to protect it during rough handling on the foredeck; and a rubber “fender,” which keeps the halyard swivel from dinging the mast when taking the sail up or down.
