The solar-powered SailTimer anemometer is not the first wireless wind sensor on the market, but it’s the only one that communicates directly with your smartphone or tablet via a “blue box” that receives the data in either wifi or Bluetooth. Used with the SailTimer app on an iPhone or iPad, it can send NMEA 0183 data to wifi-enabled onboard electronics. If you’re an Android user, the base unit will send the data to apps like iRegatta or Wind Gauge. The vane’s lithium batteries last 520 hours on a full charge and recharge in 1 hour of sunlight.
