Your New Favorite Boots

The Cold Bay Boots from Sperry Top-Sider may look reminiscent of that pair of L.L. Bean duck boots kicking around your mudroom, but believe us, there is more to these than meets the eye. The boots are built from stain and water resistant leather to keep them in your kit for a few seasons, and they’re topped off with Sperry’s seam-seal construction to keep the water out. They’re also rated to minus 25 degrees Fahrenheit and lined with Thinsulate, so in addition to staying dry your feet will stay toasty as well, whether you’re trudging over a snow-covered dock or dealing with spray in the cockpit. They’ve got a tough rubber outsole for additional durability, and like all Sperry shoes, sport the deck-friendly sole that will help provide sure footing wet or icy conditions. $150. At the Helm: When Things Go Sideways

I don’t like sea stories. My number one goal on every passage is to get the crew back in one piece. My number two goal is to get the boat back in one piece as well. If I can’t do both, I’ll take the former. Do this long enough, though, and things are going to happen, no matter ...read more
