One of my best decisions was to have a helper document the placement of the original fittings before we removed them. His sketch was a tremendous help when the time came to install the new gear. For example, we were able to see at a glance that the tracks for the genoa-sheet blocks went inside the chainplates. In retrospect, we should have taken photos, too; you think you’ll remember where everything goes, but you often don't.
