Each fall, many East Coast sailors make the pilgrimage south to warmer waters along one of two well-known paths: offshore direct to the islands, or inshore via the Intracoastal Waterway. This year, the World Cruising Club’s Caribbean 1500 celebrates its 25th anniversary offshore, sailing from Portsmouth, Virginia, to Nanny Cay, Tortola, while SAIL’s Snowbird Rally launches its first journey down the inshore waterway between Hampton, Virginia, and Miami, Florida. Both get you where you want to go, but they also have their differences:
