Two Television Appearances for Tartan Yachts

Tartan and C&C Yachts have been making “World Class, Heirloom Quality Yachts” for 50 years, and this month they are gaining recognition with appearances on two television shows. Not only will a Tartan 4300, Aspire II, star as the source of character Andy Bernard's family feud in two episodes of NBC’s primetime comedy, The Office, but the company will also be featured in an episode of the Travel Channel’s Extreme Yachts. Christine Corbissero, marketing director for Tartan Marine Company, says The Office approached their factory store in Marina Del Rey, and the two episodes were shot on location there at Blue Pacific Boating, the company’s local dealer.

“I think that Tartan being featured on The Office does reflect an increased interest in sailing in general,” Corbissero says.

In the Travel Channel’s Extreme Yachts, the show’s hosts travel the country to see how top designers and nautical engineers create their boats. The Travel Channel contacted Tartan for their show because, according to Corbissero, someone had told them, “If you are looking for quality, you want Tartan.”

“After a lengthy interview we explained that although our boats are not ‘extreme’ our construction techniques are,” Corbissero says.

The show’s director, Dennis, was amazed that just five Tartan employees could construct a hull from start to finish in only four days. Tartan uses vacuum infusion to make their hulls, and they pride themselves on having some of the best in the business to do the job.

"They make it look easy, but infusion is something that takes years to learn how to do right,” Corbissero says.

The Travel Channel filmed on location at the Tartan factory on two different days, gathering footage of numerous processes such as the infusion of a hull and the baking of a carbon fiber mast.

“The whole place was abuzz with excitement during their two visits,” Corbissero says. “We had everyone from the glass shop and assembly workers to the owner on film and they all can't wait to see their fellow associates on T.V.”

Corbissero says the staff plans to host a watch party of the Extreme Yachts episode sometime later this month.

“We are all very proud of these two features and look forward to many more.”

The episode of Travel Channel’s Extreme Yachts featuring Tartan will air this Sunday, November 18, at 2300 E.T.

The second episode of NBC’s The Office featuring the Tartan 4300 Aspire II will air Thursday November 15, at 2100 E.T.
