Flagships

Our choice for Best Multihull Flagship in SAIL’s 2014 Best Boats program, the Fountaine Pajot Victoria 67 is a big catamaran from an established builder that puts some significant technological advances into a time-proven hull and interior.
In the ranks of dedicated bluewater boats, a few names crop up time and again that are synonymous with solid construction, reliable engineering and good seakeeping. One of those names is Hylas, whose stable of cruisers, from first Sparkman & Stephens and latterly Germán Frers, have an enviable pedigree.
Jeanneau’s most audacious sailboat design yet began as many artistic endeavors do, with a hand-drawn sketch, in this case on a large sheet of paper in the Philippe Briand design office in London.

Like many monohull sailors, what first drew me to today’s cruising multihulls was all that lounging space. Performance concerns were secondary, at best. What was the point? Over the years, though, my standards have changed. No longer am I content sailing on a mere party platform.
Have you ever wondered what brands and models are the most popular bluewater cruising boats? So have we, so we plundered the archives of the World Cruising Club to see which boats have featured most prominently in the last five years of the rallies that the WCC organizes—the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) from the Canary Islands to St Lucia; the Caribbean 1500 from Portsmouth, Virginia to Tortola, BVI; the ARC Europe, from Tortola and Portsmouth to Portugal via Bermuda and the Azores; and the World ARC, a biennial circumnavigation.

SAIL's Best Boats 2014: Fountaine Pajot Victoria 67

by SAIL Editors, Posted November 21, 2013
Over 65 feet you’re getting into big boat territory, and when you start talking about a catamaran with more than 31 feet of beam, as is the case with the Fountaine Pajot Victoria 67, there’s little doubt you’re dealing with a “flagship.”
