The Great Texas 300 Hits the Beach

This year marks the 12th running of the Great Texas 300—a marathon event in which many teams are forced to drop out before they even have a chance to truly get going, as their dreams come to grief in the heavy surf of the race’s signature beach starts.

Investec Loyal Tames Wild Oats

Following a three-hour hearing at the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, the 100-foot maxi Investec Loyal is officially the line-honors winner of the 2011 Rolex Sydney Hobart Race. Investec Loyal, which included American navigator Stan Honey in its crew, beat five-time line-honors winner Wild Oats XI by just over 3 minutes in one of the closest finishes in the 628-mile offshore classic. Total time at sea for the boat was 2 days, 6 hours.
There seems to be no stopping Gold Coast Australia. On March 31, the sailing powerhouse took first place in Leg 6 of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, bringing its record to seven wins in nine stages.
Only three legs remain in the 2011-2012 Volvo Ocean race, as Leg 7 began May 21 from Miami. The six teams will sail 3,590 miles from Miami to Lisbon Portugal.
Everyone loves a Sunfish. Many of us who grew up sailing have fond memories of our first adventures on these small, single-handed sailboats, and may have even started competing on them. 
When a solo sailor in the Singlehanded Transpacific Race realized he wasn’t merely sick, but dying, the Coast Guard and a merchant ship immediately effected a rescue.
  "That's it... We've smashed the arse off it!” tweeted the Vestas Sailrocket 2 team on Friday. The team broke the 500 meter speed record, with an average of 59.38 knots Friday in Ludertiz, Namibia.

Sunfish By the Numbers

This past year the venerable and yet forever young Sunfish marked its 60th year and 50th North American Nationals regatta.
Tickets are on sale now for the 34th America's Cup in San Francisco. Spectators will be able to watch the racing from three separate locations.
