Transatlantic Race 2011

On July 3, the last in a rolling series of starts for the Transatlantic Race 2011 took place off Newport, Rhode Island. The start featured the six yachts fastest boats in the 30-boat fleet: Rambler 100, Beau Geste, PUMA racing’s mar mostro, Vanquish, Sojana and ICAP Leopard.

Organized by the New York Yacht Club, the Royal Yacht Squadron, the Royal Ocean Racing Club and the Storm Trysail Club, the 2,975-mile race will finish off Lizard Point, South Cornwall, England. Two previous starts took place on June 26 and June 29.

The Transatlantic Race 2011 is one of seven races making up the new Atlantic Ocean Racing Series (AORS), which includes the Pineapple Cup – Montego Bay Race, RORC Caribbean 600, the Annapolis to Newport Race, the Rolex Fastnet Race, Biscay Race and the Rolex Middle Sea Race.
