Bodacious Dream Wins First Leg of The Atlantic Cup

Leg 1 of the Atlantic Cup came to a close an hour after midnight on May 15. The last of the Class 40s arrived in New York Harbor throughout the night on May 14, three days after leaving Charleston, South Carolina.

Bodacious Dream (pictured above) was the first boat to finish the 648-nautical-mile journey just after 2100, with a time of 78:55:13.

Just eight and a half minutes later, second place Lecoq Cuisine arrived, followed by English team 40 Degrees.

The New-York-to-Newport leg of the U.S.’s first carbon-neutral sailing race begins May 18. Throughout the race, both organizers and crews are making extra efforts to offset carbon emissions and energy expenditures and to lessen their environmental impact.
