6th Annual Heineken High Performance Dinghy Open

The 2010 Heineken High Performance Dinghy Open (HPDO) regatta will take place October 9-10 at the American Yacht Club in Rye, New York. Since its creation in 2004, the two-day regatta regularly attracts some of the best performance sailors from North America and Europe.

Approximately 120 boats are expected to race this year, up 20 from the 2009. Dinghy classes invited to participate include, the 505, F-18, A-Cat, International Canoe, RS-K6, Viper 640, International Moths (Foiling), Fireball, Flying Dutchman, International Tempest, 470, 49er and International Contender.

Many attribute the growing popularity of the event to the fact that many classes have now include the HPDO as part of their seasonal race series. The EFG Pan American Championships for the Viper 640 class, for example, closes out its racing season with the Heineken HPDO. The regatta also serves as the U.S. National Championship for the K6 class.

The Heineken HPDO is open to all sailing classes that have a Portsmouth Yacht Handicap of 87 or faster. Online entry for the 2010 regatta is posted at the American Yacht Club website.
