Racing Worth Waiting For

by Adam Cort, Posted September 18, 2013
Although the 34th America’s Cup may have still fallen short in some ways, there’s no denying that Larry Ellison, Russell Coutts and company have finally gotten what they wanted—some of the most exciting racing the historic sailing series has ever seen.
While the races of the AC34 were postponed on August 17-18, 2013, 25 youth O’Pen BIC sailors took on the blustery weather to show off their skills in a Hi-Wind Slalom course at the America’s Cup Village Marina Green in San Francisco, CA.
There have been frustratingly windless Chicago-Mac races before, but few, if any, have been as epically slow as the 105th Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac this past summer. Tweets posted by some of the roughly 2,400 sailors who took part in the sunbaked war of attrition give some idea how bad it really was…
Wing sails? Check. Full foiling? Check. Crash helmets? Check and check.
Thursday will be “Judgment Day Two” on San Francisco Bay.

The Cup Begins at Last!

After months of waiting, Oracle USA and Emirates Team New Zealand are finally providing the kind of racing Larry Ellison promised so very long ago.

Historic Cup Penalty

by Adam Cort, Posted September 4, 2013
What was already destined to be a difficult defense has become exponentially more difficult following the jury ruling on Oracle’s cheating during the AC45 World Series
As expected, it will be Emirates Team New Zealand against the defender, Oracle USA and the Golden Gate Yacht Club, in the 34th America’s Cup regatta, now that Kiwis have prevailed over Luna Rossa in the Louis Vuitton challenger series.
The Louis Vuitton Cup finals is beginning to look like a race of the pit crews as Luna Rossa and ETNZ have both been experiencing a spate of race-ending mechanical failures.
It wasn’t necessarily the prettiest weekend of racing, but there was plenty of drama and more than a few surprises as Emirates Team New Zealand and Italy’s Luna Rossa both scored wins in the opening rounds of the Louis Vuitton Finals.
