Team “Hospice by the Sea” took first place at the 2013 Hospice Regattas Championship, held at April 12-14 at the St. Petersburg Yacht Club in Florida.

The event, presented by the National Hospice Regatta Alliance, brought together the winning crews from 23 regional 2012 Hospice regattas around the country.

Skipper Bret Moss led the Hospice by the Sea team, which also included Dalton Tebo, Karl Langefeld and George Tokesky, Hospice by the Sea’s senior director for business development who stepped in last minute when another crewmember dropped out.

Moss compares racing with a less experienced crewmember on board to the way hospice cares for families and their loved ones. “We could…really deliver and guide George through this experience and make it as enjoyable as we could and hope for the best,” Moss says.

On Friday of the race, Moss and crew competed in an Ideal 18. On Saturday and Sunday, they raced a Sonar 23.

Hospice by the Sea, Inc. is a non-profit organization that serves Palm Beach and Broward counties. The organization is “very grateful to the sailing community…their dedicated time, talent and fundraising efforts are a testimony of their commitment to our mission,” says Paula J. Alderson, president and CEO of Hospice by the Sea.
