THere was a Time when the U.S. sailboat industry was largely domestic, and many of the boats that were imported came from the UK and Scandinavia. Not any more. Following the lead of the French, mass-production sailboat builders now span Europe in particular, with many long-established regional builders looking to establish new beachheads on North American shores in the wake of the financial crisis.
Long-simmering disputes in Florida between waterfront residents and cruising sailors came to a head this past summer, with residents pushing for new regulations that would prohibit anchoring within 300 feet of residential property.
