Miami Grand Prix This Week!

South Florida will once again be the site of some of the world’s most competitive racing when the 2010 Miami Grand Prix kicks into gear later this week.

The regatta, which takes place March 4-7, will feature a strong field of Farr 40s and Melges 32s, as well as a single IRC class. As was the case at Key West in January, the Miami Grand Prix provides an excellent opportunity for the Farr 40 programs to fine-tune their crew work and in preparation for the class world championship regatta next month in the Dominican Republic.

For the Melges 32 class, the Miami Grand Prix wraps up its southern winter circuit. Points earned at the December Gold Cup in Fort Lauderdale and the class Mid-Winter Championships in Key West will be combined with the upcoming Miami results for the class’s combined trophy.

About two dozen of these high-performance sport boats, hailing from Italy, Japan, the UK and nine different states, will be taking part.

With the top performers from Key West on hand it will be asking a lot for John Kilroy and his Samba Pa Ti crew to repeat the dominant performance that resulted in their winning this year’s Key West Boat of the Week honor.
