Announcing the winner of SAIL’s T-shirt Contest
This summer, SAIL Magazine and sponsor Maui Jim put out a call to all SAIL readers to try their hand at designing the next great SAIL magazine t-shirt. We asked for designs that were fun, colorful and exuded the essence of sailing—no easy task! In the course of a few months, we received just short of 100 entries and, after sifting through the finalists, narrowed it down to the two best designs.
Look for the SAIL t-shirts to be on sale later this fall at sailmagazine.com/store.
Grand Prize: Thierry DeWolf
From Thierry: “When I first saw the SAIL T-shirt design contest, looking for designs that were ‘hip, action-oriented, colorful’, I decided to go on a mental vacation to get some inspiration. In my mental vacation, it was summer, and I was sitting on my bed in a small, cozy shack on some forbidden island. The wooden frames of the windows and door let through the first stripes of sunlight as I woke to what already seemed to be a hot day that would be filled with sailing, shell-hunting and drinking cocktails with names like ‘Enigma’. A small breeze gave its best wave through the window to welcome me to the day, and I looked outside to see…this.”
Thierry will receive Maui Jims for “you and your crew” (up to 6 pairs, $2000 value) and a Bag of Swag from SAIL.
Thanks, Maui Jim!
Runner-up: Erik Saalmuller
Erik says, “I grew up on the water surrounded by boats, and nothing quite compares to the sheer thrill of stepping into a sailboat for the first time, with the wind and ocean spray blowing in your face. My sister discovered her passion for sailing long before me, and she was the one who introduced me to it. Here, a brother and sister are sailing together, experiencing the thrill of being on the water and living in the moment. This illustration captures our love for sailing and our continuous desire to share it with those who matter to us.”
Erik will receive Maui Jims for "you and your first mate" (2 pairs, $600 value) and a Bag of Swag from SAIL.
Thanks, Maui Jim!
