Princess Royal Visits New Southerly Factory

Talk about a send-off! HRH, The Princess Royal Ann, the only daughter of England’s Queen Elizabeth II paid a visit the Northshore Yachts shipyard on Monday 19th April to preside over the opening of the company’s new Southerly factory.

Accompanied by local dignitaries, Princess Ann met CEO Lester Abbott and toured the company’s new 13,000 square-foot facility, which is located in Itchenor, England, just east of the Isle of Wight.

Established in 1971, Northshore Yachts specializes in swing-keel cruising boats, that are bluewater capable, but with a keel-up draft that lets them take advantage of shallow anchorages.

“These are very exciting times for Southerly,” said company managing director John Warne. “In the last few years, we have worked hard to increase productivity. We command the highest levels of British craftsmanship and employ many skilled joiners and engineers so that we can produce world-class products. The new factory has given us the extra capacity we need for our increased demand.”

Exports account for approximately 40 percent of Northshore’s market, and the company employs about 160 staff on two sites. For more on Northshore Yachts, click here.
