Sail Away – April 2007
CARIBBEAN. Everyone likes to save moneyand why not. If you must have some time in the tropics and cant wait for the summer specials in the Caribbean and the Bahamas to kick in (see May SAIL for a rundown)and if youre flexible about datesyoull find that most bareboat companies in the Caribbean are offering last-minute online specials. The list on sailmagazine.com links to company Web sites; from there its a short cruise on the Web to an impromptu sailing vacation.
U.S. AND CANADA. SAILs list of bareboat-charter companies in the U.S. and Canada has been updated and is available on sailmagazine.com. Many of these companies offer less-than-a-week charters, either weekends or pay by the day. This is a good option if your time to explore a new cruising ground is limited but your enthusiasm is not.
NEW DIVING PROGRAM. Horizon Yacht Charters Antigua has come up with a creative way to do everything, but not all at once. Its eight-night Sail & Dive package combines three nights ashore at Jolly Harbour Marina (two days of diving) with five (more can be booked) nights of sailing. You must have Open Water certification to participate in this program; if its been a year or more since your last dive, a free refresher course is available.
