Horizon Yacht Charters Antigua teams up with Nonsuch Bay Resort

Welcome to Nonsuch Bay Resort in Antigua. Today’s schedule will be as follows: lunch at the clubhouse on a bluff overlooking the bay, a Hobie Cat race in the harbor, a sunset sail in an RS dinghy and dinner on board your Bavaria 40 Horizon charter boat. Welcome to paradise.

This past fall, Horizon Yacht Charters Antigua established a unique partnership with Nonsuch Bay Resorts, granting its charter guests the opportunity to spend a day at the resort during their charter trip. With its brand-new fleet of RS Dinghies, RS Elite fleet, Hobies and kite-surf kits, Nonsuch is spoiled for small-boat sailing choices.

Here’s how it works: For $100 per person per day, Horizon guests have free reign of the fleet at Nonsuch Bay. They can mess about in dinghies in the two square miles of protected water on the east coast of Antigua. Nonsuch also offers sailing clinics where old hands and rookies alike can receive instruction from the qualified staff at the resort. Training sessions are for one to three guests and last 1 hour. Alternatively, guests that lunch at the resort can purchase a day pass for $50.

“We had a feeling our younger guests would take to the package, but we’ve been pleasantly surprised at how several older guests seem excited as well,” says Kate Amor, marketing director at Horizon Yacht Charters. “I suppose many of them started sailing in dinghies and in a sense, this takes them back to their childhood.”

Sunsail Flotilla Adventures: The perfect summer holiday

Still looking for the ideal way to spend the kids’ summer vacation? This June, SAIL is teaming up with Sunsail to provide the ultimate family getaway: Flotilla Adventures, a themed sailing vacation for the entire family. From June 10 to 17, enjoy taking in the beauty of the Caribbean while getting to know other families on your flotilla. We’ll stop at all of the BVI hot spots where SAIL Charter Editor, Meredith Laitos, will act as hostess on the Sunsail lead boat, guiding you in a week of hands-on sailing for both kids and parents.

Let the kids loose on a scavenger hunt around Saba Rock. Show your family spirit during Family Feud night at Sydney’s Peace and Love restaurant. Get back to nature as we snorkel around the Baths and scuba-dive with Sail Caribbean divers near the Indians. Try your hand at windsurfing and stand-up paddleboarding, or watch the kids race around the buoys in dinghies at the Bitter End.

Aboard your own bareboat, you’ll have the independence to sail when and where you want. But as part of a flotilla, you’ll also be able to meet other like-minded families in an atmosphere that gives the kids a chance to run wild together, while you kick back and enjoy the peace and quiet.

Space is limited, so sign up now at sunsail.com/sail.

Star Clippers expands to the Baltic

If SAIL’s most recent journey aboard Star Flyer left you yearning for a clipper ship adventure of your own, you’ll be glad to hear this: Star Clippers recently expanded its trip itineraries to include stops around Northern Europe from May 2012 through August 2012. Ranging from three-night samplers to 11-night explorations, Star Flyer will take guests around the Baltic Sea in style, visiting many of the region’s most beloved ports as well as some lesser-known locations.

Star Flyer is a 170-guest, 360-foot tall ship that turns heads in every port she weighs anchor. On board, guests enjoy gourmet cuisine and luxurious living, while on shore they get dropped at the doorstep of Europe’s most historical cities. In May, a series of short cruises out of Hamburg and Rostock, Germany, will coincide with the annual Sailing Parade, which attracts tall ships from around the world. After that, trips will visit port favorites like Hamburg, Germany; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Copenhagen, Denmark; St. Petersburg, Russia; Antwerp, Belgium; Oslo, Norway; Stockholm, Sweden, and Helsinki, Finland.

"As a Swedish native, there's nothing more fulfilling and exciting than introducing the Star Clippers ships to my home country and showing our guests the incredible beauty of that part of the world," says Mikael Krafft, president and owner of Star Clippers. "The Baltic has a rich history of sailing, and the variety of ports we feature is sure to make these itineraries an instant success."
