We are cruising to the Bahamas this winter, and I plan to use my dinghy to explore safe passages through local reefs. I’d like to use a depthsounder and GPS chartplotter to do this, but don’t want to carry a heavy battery in my dink to run electronics for a couple of hours. Any suggestions?
Many sailors embarking on ocean passages will take along the obligatory storm jib and trysail, with the vague idea that they may come in handy. Few sailors, however, have a real understanding of how and when to set them.
Last season I repowered my Catalina 30 with a new M3-20B Universal diesel engine. Its power curve was substantially different from the original engine, so I also changed the propeller. I ordered a new shaft, a new coupling half (fitted at the supplier) and a new prop.
