Deep Blue: a bigger electric outboard

Bookmark and Share

In early 2012, SAIL gave a Pittman Innovation Award to Torqeedo for its continuing efforts to refine its electric outboard motors over the years. Now the company is incorporating those refinements in a much bigger package. While Torqeedo motors were formerly limited to 4hp or less, the new Deep Blue provides an impressive 40.5hp of thrust. Unlike its predecessors, which incorporate their batteries in an integrated housing, the Deep Blue is powered by a separate bank weighing anywhere from 650lb to 1,290lb, depending on its size and capacity. The Deep Blue includes an easy-to-read touch-screen display, which keeps users abreast of everything from speed over ground to battery charge status and remaining operating range.
