The past few months have seen a wealth of new boat designs come to life, many of which will be at the docks during the upcoming fall and winter boat show season: boats that stop conversations in mid-sentence, that turn heads as their rigs first come into view from a distance and then round the breakwater on their way into harbor.
This month’s Flagship Gallery offers a taste of what’s on tap at this year’s shows—a collection of the biggest and most luxurious models currently offered by the world’s premiere sailboat builders. Whether it’s crossing oceans, or cruising the Bahamas, these are the boats to not only take you there, but do so in unprecedented comfort and style.
These are also the boats that boast the latest in materials, sail handling hardware and boatbuilding technology—technology that was often first developed on the world’s grand prix racing circuit, but is now being harnessed for the sake of cruising and passagemaking.

This is the new Hallberg-Rassy model for 2013. The 55 connects closely to the successful 64, with lots of natural light through large portlights in the saloon, as well as four hull portlights and seven flush mounted skylight hatches. White painted wooden panels in the saloon alcoves further contribute to the spacious and inviting feel. The floor is in one level throughout the
interior, for easy movement in a seaway. This new 55 offers a lot of comfort, yet is manageable by minimum crew, thanks to the push button concept, which includes full sail handling, and bow- and stern thrusters. Like all nine current Hallberg-Rassys, she is designed by Germán Frers from Argentina and is a real pleasure to sail, with magnificent rudder feel.
Her vast walk-in engineroom gives good access to technical equipment, easy maintenance and excellent sound insulation. Her main engine is a powerful and low-reving 180 HP Volvo Penta. Combined with a huge fuel tank of 238 US gallon, that gives a range of 1 600 NM, at 1,300 RPM and 7.2 knots cruising speed. Launched in 2013, she has already been very well received and is nominated for both European Yacht of the Year and Sailboat of the Year in Sweden.

Passport Vista 545 Center Cockpit
The Passport Vista 545 is the winner of both SAIL Magazines “Flagship Monohull” and Cruising World’s “Best Full Sized Cruiser”awards for 2012. Judges for both these prestigious magazines recognized the quality of this new design, as well as the exceptional attention to detail in every aspect of the construction.
This spectacular new design from the drawing board of Passport Yacht’s team incorporates a Solent sailplan with a self-tending working jib and a reaching sail forward of the jib, both on robust roller furling systems. The mainsail is also standard with in-mast furling, making all three sails extremely easy-to-handle when short-handed sailing.
Other features of this new design that are rarely, if ever, found on yachts of this size are a very spacious aft-deck area for communal activities, voluminous fore- and aft-deck storage, two watertight bulkheads and open access to the cockpit on both sides.
As with all Passports, owners can be intimately involved in the design process of their new boat. Rig and deck layouts can be customized to each owner’s criteria, with a choice of either a tall rig or an ICW height mast. While in-mast furling is standard, in-boom furling is also available. Each interior layout is custom designed to meet each owner’s needs. Two-stateroom layouts are standard, but three-stateroom layouts are available, as are two staterooms with a separate office or work room. All boats come with a very impressive walk-in engine and machinery room.
The Passport Vista 545 is available in a center cockpit or dazzling aft-cockpit configuration. Each model has the same exceptional attention to detail and spectacular sailing characteristics.

The W.100 is a new “Spirit of Tradition” racer/cruiser meant for worldwide competition. The new racer/cruiser yachts will retain the “Spirit of Tradition” and performance attributes of the existing W-Class Yacht Company’s W.37, W.46 and W.76 models.
The W.100 will put you in Superyacht, Bucket and Classic regattas with other large “Spirit of Tradition” yachts. In the Caribbean you’ll compete in the St. Barths Bucket and Antigua Classics. Racing in New England, you’ll join the ranks of the Eggemoggin Reach Regatta, the Opera House Cup, the Shipyard Cup, the Newport Bucket, and the IYRS/MOY Classic Yacht Regatta. Sailing in the Western Med, the W.100 will be a competitor in Les Voiles de Antibes, the Palma Superyacht Regatta, and Le Regates Royale.
The W.100 and her sister ships are all based on the late Joel White’s W.76 design, which was inspired by the NYYC-50. The new W.100 yachts will be imbued with classic styling, minimal interiors and contemporary performance enhancements.
The W.100 will be built as a cold-molded yacht, ensuring her structural integrity, light weight and superior rigidity. Her mast will be carbon fiber and she will be outfitted with modern sail-handling systems.

The Germán Frers designed 64 is Hallberg-Rassy’s new flagship. She is a world cruiser for a family crew.
The elegant deck is clean and uncluttered. The essential sailing control functions can be handled from the cockpit by a single sailor simply using the push of buttons which are standard equipment. The cockpit is very well protected by the Hallberg-Rassy typical soft-top wind screen or hard top. Its enormous 2270 gallon aft deck lockers have the capability to store a RIB dinghy.
Below deck living areas have lots of natural light. There are six hull portlights.
The engine is unusually well-sized, even for a Hallberg-Rassy. It is a 6-cylinder Volvo Penta D6-300 with 300 HP and has 669 Newton meter torque. Tanks are generous for long-range cruising with 476 gallons of diesel fuel and 344 gallons of fresh water. The walk-in engine room is large, has room for lots of technical equipment, is well sound insulated and allows for easy maintenance.
Frers speed diagram for the Hallberg-Rassy 64 says the boat will achieve 9.2 knots boat speed at just 10 knots of true wind. This yacht is a real mile eater.
